(from Citroen Press Release) Citroën will be premiering the C4 Picasso – its new compact MPV – at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. Set to reach showrooms in France from October 2006, the new vehicle will arrive in most other European countries during the last quarter of the year. With the C4 Picasso and the Xsara Picasso, a vehicle that continues to pursue a successful market career, Citroën now offers two MPVs that are quite distinct in terms of both styling and features. With its extensive glass area and vast modular cabin, the C4 Picasso becomes the first 'visiospace'. The unique styling, driveability and original features of the C4 Picasso contribute to a comfortable and highly enjoyable ride. This new MPV can carry up to seven people in comfort. All vehicle functions have been designed to ensure an easy, pleasant and relaxed journey. Right from the first level of trim, the C4 Picasso boasts new features for on-board comfort, along with driving aids and safety functions. Close attention has also been paid to the perceived quality of the passenger compartment. The prestige interior materials are pleasant to touch; the chrome and gloss black are pleasant on the eye; the paintwork is smooth; and the grain of the dashboard and door panels is exceptionally fine. Four responsive, high-performance engines are available from launch, two petrol: the 1.8i 16V and 2.0i 16V developing 127 bhp and 143 bhp DIN, and two diesel: the HDi 110 DPFS and HDi 138 DPFS. All engines meet Euro IV standards, and the two diesel units are equipped with a particulate filter as standard. Depending on the market, the engines are available with a wide choice of transmissions: manual, automatic or the new 6-speed electronic gearbox system. With its strong personality, its dimensions (4.59 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.66 m high) and its attractive features, the C4 Picasso is a natural extension to Citroën's MPV range. The line-up now comprises three distinct and complementary vehicles: the compact Xsara Picasso and C4 Picasso, and a large MPV, the C8. A NEW BODY STYLE OF DYNAMIC AND HARMONIOUS LINES With its fluid, dynamic styling and extensive use of glass, the C4 Picasso possesses a strong personality and unique character The harmonious vehicle volumes, enhanced by the cleanly drawn body lines, convey an impression of power. The flowing design contributes to an aerodynamic performance that is outstanding for this segment (Cd of 0.31 and Cd.A of 0.82). The wide-angle panoramic windscreen, set well to the front, highlights the innovative character of the C4 Picasso 'visiospace' and catches the observer's eye, as do the large quarter-lights. At the same time, the strongly shaped headlamps, underlined by the indicators, give the car character. The determined look of the front end is accentuated by a wide chevron badge with angled chrome strips extending up to the headlamps. This design signature, reflecting that of the C4, C5 and C6, identifies the car as a member of the Citroën family. Viewed from the side, the large windows are underpinned by the dynamic waist line and the marked break in rear quarter-light design. At the rear, the absence of body-coloured C-pillars creates the impression of an extended window line. The roof flows seamlessly from the windscreen to the rear deflector in a single line. The rear lights are another distinctive feature on the C4 Picasso. They constitute a unique visual signature through their shape, and the sizing of their lines of light. EXCEPTIONAL VISIBILITY AND CLARITY A true 'visiospace', the C4 Picasso boasts an exceptionally large glass area, providing an outstanding field of vision for all the occupants. This visibility enhances driveability while also making a valuable contribution to safety. It considerably reduces the front three-quarter blind spot by doubling the angle of visibility at the front and providing the best side and rear three-quarter vision in its segment. Exceptional visibility from all angles A wide-angle panoramic windscreen that doubles visibility in front of the vehicle The C4 Picasso is the first production model to feature as standard a wide-angle panoramic windscreen that doubles visibility in front of the vehicle. The angle of vertical visibility (from the lowest point to the highest point of the windscreen) is 70°, compared with just 35° in a conventional MPV. To free up the field of vision, the roof cross-member has been pushed back by more than 30 cm compared with an average compact MPV, without compromising the stiffness of the body structure. The wide-angle panoramic windscreen is accompanied by innovative sliding sunblinds. Best front three-quarter visibility in its category The C4 Picasso also boasts the best front three-quarter visibility in its category with the largest quarter-lights (each with an area of 12 dm²) ever seen on a compact MPV to date, and narrow windscreen pillars. This outstanding visibility enhances driveability while also making a valuable contribution to safety by considerably reducing the front three-quarter blind spot. Best side visibility In each row, the C4 Picasso boasts the best side visibility in the compact MPV segment: 65° in row 1, 78° in row 2 and 38° in row 3. This outstanding side visibility reinforces the impression of space and of access to the outside world. Best rear three-quarter visibility The C4 Picasso also has the largest rear quarter-light in its category (more than 20 dm²), providing excellent side visibility for the passengers in row 3. The C4 Picasso thus boasts the best rear three-quarter visibility in its segment, a valuable asset for manoeuvring. A cabin bathed in light Biggest glazed area in its segment The C4 Picasso boasts the largest glazed area in the compact MPV market: 5.2 m² without the panoramic glass sunroof and 6.4 m² with it. As well as providing extensive visibility for all passengers, the wide-angle panoramic windscreen, quarter-lights and generously sized side windows let the light flood into the cabin. Largest panoramic sunroof in its category The C4 Picasso can also be fitted with a tinted panoramic sunroof – the largest in its category (1.04 m). This feature creates exceptional visibility and light for all the passengers. vOriginal lighting to create a friendly atmosphere and enhance on-board comfort Lighting is another distinctive feature on the C4 Picasso. The cabin boasts no fewer than 32 sources of light, designed to create a warm atmosphere and make day-to-day travelling easier. Warm ambience lighting Whether natural or artificial, light is an integral part of the C4 Picasso. Particular attention was given to night lighting. A host of original light sources create a warm, pleasant ambience. Light guides under the central fascia strip, in the door panels and in the roof diffuse a soft indirect light that can be adjusted using a button on the bottom part of the dashboard. The cabin also features small LEDs in the door-opening controls and the front roof light. An original central screen with a customised colour scheme and data display Driving and comfort information is grouped on a single screen in the centre of the dashboard, thus limiting the number of display areas. Depending on the level of trim, the screen features a customised colour scheme and data display The driver chooses the information to be displayed using the controls next to the screen, or the customisation key on the fixed-centred controls steering wheel. The background of the screen is yellow or, depending on the level of trim, two-tone, with five possible colour settings. To adapt the level of lighting to all situations, the brightness can be adjusted by night as well as by day – a new feature – using two independent setting tables. In this way, the screen is always legible. New lighting for day-to-day driving For greater on-board comfort, conventional light sources are backed up by other lighting functions: - Reading lights are provided on the backs of the front seats. Passengers simply fold down the aircraft-style tray and switch on. - To make it easier to find things, the stowage compartments in the door panels light up automatically as soon as the passenger stretches out a hand. - Another new feature is the rechargeable lamp in the boot. It is used both as a boot-light and a hand-held torch. The torch has around 40 minutes of power. It recharges as soon as it is replaced in its support and the car starts moving. - Outside the car, automatic side lights positioned under the rearview mirrors make it easier to get in and out of the car at night. This feature provides effective lighting, whether the rearview mirrors are folded or not. The lights cover a broad area, primarily the areas facing the passenger and driver doors, and more generally, the sides of the vehicle. These side lights can be integrated with the automatic guide-me-home lights that can be switched on (or off) through the onboard computer. They can also be included with the distance lighting. STANDARD-SETTING INTERIOR SPACE A perfect 'visiospace', the C4 Picasso is exceptionally spacious. Its architecture and dimensions (4.59 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.66 m high) make for a roomy interior.
