During the year, it got wide attention from the public by advanced science and technology along with its charm of fashion. With its distinguished quality, POLO won “Red Spot” international design award and was honored as “Car of 2003 in China” by professional magazine-Quatro Rodas, following “Gold Steering Wheel Award”, “Best Official Car” and “Best Safety Performance in Collision Test of Small Cars”.

    Electrohydraulic Servo Sheering System
It perfectly combines flexibility of controlling and safety of driving to ensure that cars can achieve best sheering performance in any driving situation. At the same time, by eliminating sheering system’s dependence on rotational speed of engine and reducing oil consumption of engine, it enhances economy of car driving. The lower the speed is, the higher the sheering speed and the assisting power are. Conversely the higher the speed is, the lower the assisting power is to avoid accidents occurred when the car is swerving at a high speed and large angle.

    1.4L Engine with Distinguished Performance
Featuring low oil consumption, large torsion, quick acceleration, and excellent performance in continuous swerving. When the rotational speed is at 3000rpm to 3500rpm, acceleration is swift and dynamic, completely meeting driving needs in China’s urban area. Aluminum cylinder and all plastic air-inlet pipes can effectively reduce weight and movement friction, optimize engine performance, and enhance accelerating performance and economy of fuel oil consumption.

     Powerful 1.6L Engine
It applies friction-reducing transmission device to reduce oil consumption. Electric controlled exhaust gas circulation and second time air system enable POLO to reach Europe ⅣEmission Standard. Use of changeable plastic and air inlet pipe are helpful in increasing torsion at low rotational speed and power at high rotational speed. The highest power can reach 74Kw.

     MQ200 Manual Gearbox
Manual gearbox MQ200 is of compact shape and low weight. Hollow structure of Input axis and output axis and aluminum alloy shell reduce weight significantly and enhance bearing capacity, with maximum torsion reaching 200N·m. Shift I and shift II use a three-dimension face synchronizer. The gear position is perfectly clear, and the operation is highly convenient. Gear shifting power is reduced by 50%, and gear shifting is much easier.

     AG150 Intelligent Automatic Transmission
It applies the most mature structure of hydraulic pitch-shifting device plus planetary gear shifting device. During the process of gear shifting, fuzzy logic control is applied to meet driving styles and habits of different drivers and gain both optimized economy and power. An independent cooler is set upon it to cool auto transmission fuel (ATF). Meanwhile, this cooler is integrated into the cooling system of the whole car. Therefore, the cooling is more reliable.

    POLO meets four-star collision level of world’s strictest European NCAP (European new car assessment organization) and gets highest marks in safety test of collision of small-size car, thus accord with safety laws of any country all over the word, far prevail domestic cars of the same level merely passing collision test. POLO can reach five-star level of the organization merely by adding overhead safety gasbag.

    As an A0 grade sedan, POLO selects advanced brake device of A grade car. Its front and rear tires use 14-inch disc brake among which front tires are of ventilation disc, improving heat radiation performance, furthermore enhancing brake stability. As the only car installed with this equipment among cars of the same level, POLO reaches standard of medium and high grades sedans in terms of safety and stability.
   
    Covering EBV (electrical brake distribution), CBC (converting brake control), and MSR (resistance torsion control of engine), ABS system of POLO can more effectively prevent deadlock of driving tire in case of brake in low-sticking road to ensure stability of brake in all kinds of road situation by CAN-BUS technology and network communication of system via over-slide rate of engine.

    Among double safety gasbags of driver and assistant driver, the gasbag for assistant driver can be locked to protect children in the front row. After explosion of gasbag, controller of engine will automatically cut off oil-way to further improve passive safety performance of the car. Meanwhile, central integrate controlled gate lock will automatically open, and all the light in the car will light up automatically thus greatly enhance the self -protection of passengers.

    Compared with domestically made cars of the same level, POLO, for the first time, applies internationally advanced optimized anti-collision pedal design (COF). When cars encounter serious collision, brake handspike will immediately break, and will be separated from pedal to absorb energy caused by collision and prevent shock wave from spreading, and further prevent bumping force hurting the feet of driver through pedal. Hence greatly improves driving safety.

    The front seats are equipped with three-spot seat belt, burning and explosive rolling device and force limitation device. In case of collision, it can fix passengers in the seats stably, and prevent seat belt from hurting people. Joint function of seat belt and safety gasbag provides passengers with reliable protection.

    The overall car body is made of steel plate of high intensity, zinc-galvanized in both sides, together with most advanced laser welding technology of car body in the manufacturing field. Total length of welding line surpasses 7 meters, exceeds the average standard of medium and high grades sedans in China at present. It also significantly improves the comprehensive stiffness and collision safety, furthermore avoid the traditional skylight “cullis”. The comprehensive dynamic stiffness of the car exceeds 42Hz, preeminent above all the other car types of the same level.

    The of the entire car applies cathode electric undercoat which is of high quality and can guarantee three years freshness, and no worry about ”fading with time” at all. The workshop of painting equipments for POLO ranks first class in China. Painting procedure of every POLO car includes rigid process of eleven working procedures.

    Connection of components of car body applies a great deal of gluing. Total length of gluing is close to 50 meters, which greatly improves sealing and vibration proof performance of car body. All the wind windows and triangle windows apply way of automatic gelatinizing by robots. All the end surface of cases and inner part of cavity apply wax dipping and filling craftsmanship. This method makes POLO own anti–rust quality guarantee of car body for 12 years and greatly increases transferring value of old cars.

    Initial application of CAN-BUS (controller intranet) technology comparing to domestic cars of the same level makes POLO an intelligent entity. CAN-BUS enables the central controller to automatically coordinate operations of all branch systems and easily realize sharing of data in the whole car, largely reduce failure rate of the whole car, and make the work condition more stable. Meanwhile, it reduces overall weight of the car and lower oil consumption, making POLO more economical and environment protective.

    According to car situation and driver wishes, it conducts fine adjustment of actual oil supply, precisely controls operation of motion valve, and coordinates and manages POLO’s instantaneous requirements of torsion of engine and output power so that the operation of engine at every performance point can be optimized in terms of emission, oil consumption and driving performance, as well as effective reduction of misconducts and accidents, and significant improvement of safety.

    Structure of optimized hydraulic clutch integrates multi-pole idling damping vibration many new technologies of modern car clutch, such as multi-pole idling damping vibration and major changeable master damping vibration, representing the highest level of current clutch. It not only has nice work reliability and long life, but make the whole car has good vibration-absorption function at all kinds of idle speeds.

    POLO anti-theft system, which is advanced internationally, is based on CAN-BUS technology, and has an automatic code-reading function. Combined with stochastic code technology, it makes anti-theft code not interpretable. Only keys authorized by Volkswagen group can start the engine, realizing “anti-theft engine”. Therefore, POLO owns the best anti-theft performance among domestic cars of the same level.
