KOLKATA, India — General Motors will begin selling the Chevrolet Spark in India in the first half of 2007 as it tries to grab a 10 percent share of this rapidly growing market by 2010, according to Reuters.
The automaker will also consider exporting the Spark, which is a version of the Daewoo Matiz, to Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, said Ankush Arora, vice president of sales and marketing at General Motors India.
India's small-car market makes up the lion's share of this country's market for passenger vehicles. The small-car kings here are Suzuki Motor's Indian unit, Maruti Udyog and South Korea's Hyundai. The number of Sparks that GM will try to sell here has not yet been announced.
